For many filmmakers in Ghana, getting their productions onto cinema screens and recovering investments after production remain major hurdles, despite the growing number of films being produced locally.

Over the years, industry players have called on government and key stakeholders to make cinema facilities and distribution channels more accessible to support the commercial success of Ghanaian productions.

The Ghana Cinema Train is expected to bridge this gap by connecting filmmakers, film distributors and cinema operators on a common platform to improve the distribution and exhibition of local films across the country.

The initiative also seeks to revitalize Ghana's cinema culture, create new revenue opportunities for filmmakers and strengthen film exhibition centers nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority Kafui Danku said the project would make cinema facilities accessible to people who have had limited opportunities to experience movies on the big screen.

According to the CEO, the initiative will not be limited to Accra but will extend to other regions, ensuring that film premieres and screenings reach audiences across the country.

The CEO explained that a movie premiering in Accra could also premiere in the Volta Region and other parts of the country simultaneously.

The Ghana Cinema Train is expected to strengthen the connection between filmmakers and audiences while providing a more sustainable platform for film distribution and exhibition in Ghana.
